  • MAN Vintners Tormentoso Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2011

Quinta da Aveleda Loureiro Alvarinho 2011 (Portugal)
$9.95 (LCBO #89995)
Alvarinho is the same grape as Albariño that is grown across the border in Spain's Rias Baixas region. The wine is very pale in colour with a lime tint; minerally, spring flowers, lemon peel and white peach on the nose; dry, elegant, grassy-herbal and citrus flavours; light and crisply dry with a light spritz (88). Great value at the price.
Food match: seafood risotto; salad

Michel Torino Don David Finca La Primavera No. 3 Torrontes 2011 (Argentina)
$16.95 (Vintages #285999)
Torrontes is an Argentinean white grape that tastes rather like a dry Muscat. This wine is bright straw in colour with a bouquet of orange blossom, grapefruit and cardamom. It's crisply dry with orange and peach flavours and great length. ****½ (89)
Food match: Thai dishes; aperitif

MAN Vintners Tormentoso Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2011 (South Africa)
$14.95 (Vintages #278366)
Chenin Blanc is South Africa's signature white grape. It used to be called Steen. Straw coloured with a nose of quince, oak and that smoky note when you strike flint stones together, it's medium-bodied, dry, elegant and well balanced. **** (88)
Food match: grilled fish; roast chicken
