680News wine reviews – August 10–12, 2012

Lakeview Cellars Reserve Syrah 2007
2007 was an amazingly warm summer in Ontario, though not as hot as this one. The grapes for red wines ripened well then. There are still some 2007s around, one of which is Lakeview Cellars Reserve Syrah. On the nose, it's savoury, herbal, blackberry and vanilla oak; it offers richly extracted blackberry and dark chocolate flavours on the palate with a lively acidic spine. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with pepper steak or fresh parmesan cheese. That's Lakeview Cellars Reserve Syrah 2007 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #264150)

Marques de Caceres Rosado 2011
Marques de Caceres Rosado has been a consistent favourite of mine over the years because of its price/quality factor. This rosé is a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha; it's pale pink in colour with an arresting bouquet of red berries. Light and elegant on the palate, its vibrant acidity prolongs the flavour of raspberries and wild strawberries on the palate. It costs $12.95 a bottle. The perfect wine for paella or cold salmon. That's Marques de Caceres Rosado 2011. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #622142)
