Rosewood Natalie's Süssreserve Riesling 2009 (Ontario)
$14.95 (Vintages #258806)
Winemaker Natalie Spytkowsky has blended back unfermented Riesling juice to give this wine a touch of sweetness. I tasted the 2010 vintage and it's equally good. Honeyed grapefruit flavour balanced with fresh acidity. **** (88)
Food match: Thai dishes; pork and apple sauce

Vineland Estates Elevation Riesling 2011 (Ontario)
$19.95 (Vintages #38117)
This is quintessential Niagara Escarpment Riesling. Very pale in colour, it has a bouquet of limes, honey and pear skin. It's medium-bodied, off-dry with a light spritz and racy acidity that gives it great length. ****½ (89+)
Food match: mushroom flan; ham steak

Stratus Vineyards Wildass Red 2009 (Ontario)
$19.95 (Vintages #86363)
This is what you might call a "kitchen sink blend" – all the red varieties Stratus grows: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Gamay, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tempanillo, Tannat, Sangiovese. Deep ruby colour with cherry and smoke nose; medium-bodied, dry and lean, cherry flavour with a firm finish. **** (87)
Food match: tomato-based pasta dishes; meatloaf
