680News wine reviews – October 5–7, 2012

Bodegas Esmeralda Tilia Malbec 2011
The Mendoza Valley in Argentina is known for its Malbec wines but with their popularity the price is rising. I came across a Malbec at the LCBO which is within my price range – Bodegas Esmeralda Tilia Malbec 2011. It costs $12.95. It's deep ruby in colour with a bouquet of rose petal and blackberry;on the palate, it's medium-bodied, with blackberry and licorice flavours, juicy fruit and soft tannins. Very elegant for the price. The kind of wine that works well with steak or stuffed peppers. That's Bodegas Esmeralda Tilia Malbec 2011 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News & 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #16094)

Bodegas Patrocinio Señorio de Uñuela Reserva 2007
The red wines of Rioja in Spain are generally blends of Tempranillo with Garnacha and Graciano and Mazuelo. But currently at the LCBO is a wine that's 100% Tempranillo. Bodegas Patrocinio Señorio de Uñuela Reserva 2007 has that characteristic nose of sandalwood from the use of American oak and strawberry notes. The fruit is dry and plummy with soft tannins and the wine finishes with a note of cinnamon. It costs $17.95 a bottle. That's Bodegas Patrocinio Señorio de Uñuela Reserva 2007 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, LCBO #172536)
