680News wine reviews – October 26–28, 2012

Hardy's The Gamble Chardonnay Pinot Gris 2011
The Australians have no fear when it comes to wine. They'll blend anything with anything. Take Hardy's the Gamble 2011. It's a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris – the two most popular grapes on the planet. Well the gamble paid off. Pale straw in colour with a nose of clove and pear, this wine has a peachy flavour, a soft mouth feel and a dry clovey finish. It costs $14.95 at the LCBO. Serve it with roast chicken. That's Hardy's The Gamble Chardonnay Pinot Gris 2011from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, LCBO #219147)

Rocca delle Macie Vernaiolo Chianti 2011
Rocca delle Macie Vernaiolo 2011 is a very serviceable Chianti at a modest price. Ruby in colour, it has a nose of cherries and spice. It's medium-bodied, dry with a firm structure and the flavour of cherry pits on the finish. It costs $13.95 a bottle and is a very versatile food wine that you can match with pasta dishes or pizza. Vernaiolo comes from the Latin "vernale" meaning "of spring," which is when the wine is bottled. The website suggests you drink it while listening to Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." Or not. That's Rocca delle Macie Vernaiolo 2011 from Tuscany. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, LCBO #269589)
