Preiss-Zimmer Vieilles Vignes Riesling 2008
If you're looking for a Riesling that's really dry check out the vintages stores for Preiss-Zimmer Vieilles Vignes Riesling 2008. This is quintessential Alsace Riesling. Aromas of peach and citrus fruits rise from the glass mingled with petrol notes, which is characteristic of maturing Riesling. The wine is medium-bodied with peach and floral flavours and a mineral note all carried on bracing acidity. It costs $18.95 at Vintages. Try it with grilled salmon or mushroom quiche. That's Preiss-Zimmer Vieilles Vignes Riesling 2008 from Alsace. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, Vintages #292193)

Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2010
Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2010 is a bargain-priced Syrah from the warm, dry Swartland region of South Africa. Dense purple-black in colour, it has a smoky, nose of blackberries and roasted herbs. It reminds me of a Syrah from the northern Rhône with its savoury, smoky black cherry flavour, well integrated oak and soft tannins. It costs $14.95 from Vintages outlets. Match it with pepper steak. That's Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2010 from South Africa. For Post City magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #595280)
