680News wine reviews – December 7–9, 2012

Domaine Laroche Chablis St. Martin 2011
Of all white wines, Chablis is perhaps the most versatile when it comes to matching with food because of its vibrant acidity. A good example is Domaine Laroche Chablis St. Martin 2011. This Chardonnay grown in the northern part of Burgundy is straw coloured with a nose of white flowers and green apples; it's fresh and lively on palate, medium-bodied, with a lemony, minerally, green apple flavour and good mid-palate fruit. It costs $21.95 and it's the ultimate dinner party wine. Match it with fish, seafood or a runny Camembert. That's Domaine Laroche Chablis St. Martin 2011 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($21.95, LCBO #289124)

Project Paso Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Paso Robles is a Californian wine region worth discovering. You could start with a wine called Project Paso Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 that sells for $17.90 at the LCBO. It's dense purple in colour with a smoky, blackcurrant and vanilla oak nose. The fruit is sweet and succulent, full on the palate with a rich blackcurrant flavour and soft tannins. Its muscular nature calls for a hearty meat dish. That's Project Paso Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.90, LCBO #291153)
