Loosen Bros. Dr. L Sparkling Riesling Sekt (Mosel)
$13.95 (Vintages #296095)
The Germans call their sparkling wine made by the champagne method Sekt. Straw coloured with a green tint, it has an oily, lime and honey nose with a floral top note. It's elegant, light and lively on the palate with great tension between sweetness and citrus acidity. It fairly dances on the tongue. Good value. **** ½ (89)
Food match: aperitif wine; Thai dishes

Ricossa Antica Casa Moscato d'Asti 2011 (Piemonte)
$15.95 (Vintages #72272)
If you're looking for a wooing wine for Valentine's Day, try this delicious straw-coloured wine with a nose of jasmine and honey; it's medium-bodied, semi-sweet with a light spritz. It's layered and hedonistic, like biting into a Muscat grape straight out of the fridge. ***** (90)
Food match: fresh strawberries; angel food cake

Carpineto Vino Nobile de Montepulciano Riserva 2006 (Tuscany)
$29.95 (Vintages #368910)
A real collectible but drinking well now. Dense purple-black in colour with a spicy, earthy nose of black cherries. Medium to full-bodied, dry and elegant, beautifully structured and firm on the finish. ***** (90)
Food match: duck breast; truffled pasta dishes
