Ghost Pines Winemaker's Blend Chardonnay 2010 (California)
$19.95 (LCBO #308122)
This is a departure from the usual California Chardonnay, as it is a blend of grapes from three appellations – Sonoma, Monterey and Napa Counties. Straw coloured with a green tint, it has a spicy, buttery nose of pineapple, toast and vanilla oak. On the palate, expect sweet melon and pineapple flavours. Full-bodied, soft mouth feel and easy drinking. **** (88)
Food match: roast chicken; pork

Simi Chardonnay 2010 (California)
$20.95 (Vintages #673806)
This Sonoma Chardonnay has the elegance of a white Burgundy and the lush fruit expression of California. Straw in colour, what first attracts the nose is its nutty, toasty note then comes apple and vanilla oak aromas. It is dry and mouth-filling with a thread of minerality running through it. ***** (90)
Food match: blackened scallops; steamed lobster

Studert-Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2008 (Mosel)
$16.95 (Vintages #970129)
The perfect Valentine's Day sipper at a bargain price. Pale straw colour with a nose of honeyed limes, petrol and minerals. Very elegant and light on the palate, off-dry peach and apple flavours with a long finish. ***** (90)
Food match: aperitif wine; Thai dishes
