680News wine reviews – March 1–3, 2013

Masi Modello Delle Venezie Bianco 2011
Usually we think red wine when we think Italy, but the northern provinces make some nifty whites. From Veneto comes Masi Modello delle Venezie Bianco 2011 that sells at a comfortable $10.95 a bottle. It's a blend of 85% Pinot Grigio with 15% local varieties. Three months in oak has rounded it out its ripe peach and grapefruit flavours. A good quaffing wine with lively acidity. It's the kind of versatile white wine that you can match with fish, seafood or chicken. That's Masi Modello Delle Venezie Bianco 2011 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($10.95. LCBO #564674)

Domaine de la Tourlaudière Muscadet Sèvres et Maine Sur Lie 2011
Global warming must have something to do with it because Muscadet from the Loire doesn't seem to be as austerely dry as it used to be. Domaine de la Tourlaudière Muscadet Sèvres et Maine Sur Lie 2011, currently at Vintages outlets, is a light golden colour which shows some maturity; it has a minerally, apple nose and well extracted flavours. If I had this wine blind I would have thought it was a Soave. It's well balanced with clean lines and a lingering fresh finish. It costs $13.95. Try it with grilled fish. That's Domaine de la Tourlaudière Muscadet Sèvres et Maine Sur Lie 2011 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, Vintages #171694)
