680News wine reviews – March 8–10, 2013

Fratelli Fabiano Corvina Veronese Negraro Appassimento 2010
Appassimento is a traditional Italian winemaking technique that concentrates flavour by drying the grapes for several weeks before fermentation. Fratelli Fabiano Corvina Veronese Negraro Appassimento 2010 from Veneto is a deep ruby colour. It has a spicy plum and raisin bouquet with a woody, struck flint note. Its rustic, plum flavour is full-bodied and mouth-filling with sweet fruit and supple tannins. Good value at $14.95 from Vintages stores. Serve it with meat-based pasta dishes or hearty winter stews. That's Fratelli Fabiano Corvina Veronese Negraro Appassimento 2010 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #310110)

Studert-Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2008
It's a mouthful to pronounce but it's also a delicious mouthful of wine: Studert-Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2008 from Germany's Mosel region. Pale straw in colour, it has a nose of honeyed limes and petrol with a minerally note. It's very light on the palate at 7.5 per cent alcohol but its off-dry peach and citrus flavours are intense, very elegant and lingering. It costs $16.95 at Vintages outlets. Pour it as an aperitif before dinner or try it with light curried dishes. That's Studert-Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2008 from Germany. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, Vintages #970129)
