680News wine reviews – March 15–17, 2013

Goats Do Roam Red 2011
Goats Do Roam is the playfully satiric name of a South African winery that actually does have goats roaming on the property. Their red blend of Syrah, Cinsaut, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Petite Sirah has a smoky nose of black fruits. Expect plum and blackberry flavours with a spicy savoury note and a finish of toasted herbs and dark chocolate. A very complex wine for the price – which is $12.95 a bottle. Serve it with pepper steak. That's Goats Do Roam Red 2011 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($12.95, LCBO #718940)

Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2006
Once in a while you've got to spoil yourself with a great bottle of wine that's normally outside your budget level. Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2006 from Tuscany will do you proud. It's dense purple-black in colour with a spicy, earthy, black cherry nose. Flavours of cherry, blackberry and tobacco greet the palate. It's beautifully balanced and firmly structured, drinking well now but you could cellar it to the end of the decade. It costs $29.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with red meat dishes. That's Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2006 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 News and 680News.com. ($29.95, Vintages #368910)
