680News wine reviews – March 22–24, 2013

Ravine Vineyard Sand & Gravel White 2011
Ravine Vineyard is a relatively new Ontario winery in Niagara. They've produced a versatile blend of seven grapes called Sand & Gravel York Road White 2011. It's light straw in colour with an apple and citrus bouquet woven through with a thread of minerality. It's medium-bodied with a dry apple flavour with enough citrus acidity to give the wine length. It costs $16.95 at the LCBO. Try it with chicken salad or runny cheeses. That's Ravine Vineyard Sand & Gravel York Road White 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com ($16.95, LCBO #260414)

Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Vermentino 2011
From the Maremma region on the coast of Tuscany comes this very flavourful white wine made from the Vermentino grape. Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Vermentino 2011. The wine is straw coloured with a floral, peach and apple bouquet; it's medium-bodied with a touch of sweetness in mid-palate. And the price is right – $12.95 a bottle. Can't argue with that. Match it with tuna tartar or blackened scallops. That's Tommasi Poggio al Tufo Vermentino 2011 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com ($12.95, LCBO #272138)
