680News wine reviews – April 12–14, 2013

Katogi & Srofilia Averoff Xinomavro 2007
We don't see a lot of quality red wines from Greece at the LCBO but here's one that shouldn't be missed. Katogi & Srofilia Averoff Xinomavro 2007 from the Naoussa region and made from the indigenous Xynomavro grape. Deep ruby in colour with a slightly orange rim, it has a nose of red berries, clove and forest floor. It's full-bodied with a cedary note, dusty tannins and it reminds me of a Barbaresco. It costs $17.95 from Vintages. Try it with lasagna. That's Katogi & Srofilia Averoff Xinomavro 2007 from Greece. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #249615)

F. Tinel-Blondelet L'Arrêt Buffatte Pouilly-Fumé 2010
One of the best Pouilly-Fumés to come through Vintages in a long time is F. Tinel-Blondelet L'Arrêt Buffatte Pouilly-Fumé 2010. It's light straw in colour with a nose of elderberries and freshly cut grass. Full-bodied and crisply dry, it offers rich gooseberry and lemon flavours. It's mouth-filling and very elegant. Match it with grilled fish or camembert. It costs $22.95 at Vintages outlets. That's Tinel-Blondelet L'Arrêt Buffatte Pouilly-Fumé 2010 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($22.95, Vintages #169730)
