680News wine reviews – June 21–23, 2013

Saint Clair Pioneer Block 10 Chardonnay 2010
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 10 Chardonnay 2010 from New Zealand is really Burgundian in style: it's straw coloured with a spicy, apple and forest floor nose heightened by vanilla oak. It's full-bodied and elegant, with beautifully balanced peach and apple flavours and great length on the finish. It sells for $25.95 at Vintages outlets but it's worth every penny Match it with barbecued salmon or lobster. That's Saint Clair Pioneer Block 10 Chardonnay 2010 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com ($25.95, Vintages #317651)

Balbas Reserva 2001
Ribera del Duero in Spain produces some juicy, succulent red wines. Balbas Reserva 2001 currently at Vintages is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. New World in style, it's dense ruby colour with a cedar and tobacco nose. It's full on the palate, dry with richly extracted black fruit flavours and a firm tannic finish. Still youthful for its age. It costs $20.95 at Vintages. Try it with steak. That's Balbas Reserva 2001 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com ($20.95, Vintages #85183)
