680News wine reviews – July 5–7, 2013

Miopasso Fiano 2011
The Fiano grape is pretty well exclusive to Italy's Campania province and to the island of Sicily. Miopasso Fiano 2011 comes from Sicily. It's golden in colour, medium weight with a minerally nose of tropical fruit; it offers a richly extracted, creamy mouth feel with flavours of sweet grapefruit and a savoury finish. It costs a reasonable $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Match it with grilled white fish. That's Miopasso Fiano 2011 from Sicily. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, Vintages #326793)

Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2012
One of the best value red wines at Vintages – and it should be in ample supply since it's what they call an Essential – is Boekenhoutskloof's Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2012. For $14.95 you get a richly extracted full-bodied wine with a spicy, smoky nose of blackberries and black olives. It has a sweet and savoury taste backed by lively acidity. An ideal wine for barbecued meats. That's Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2012 from South Africa. Don't worry about the Boekenhoutskloof – just ask for Porcupine Ridge. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95. Vintages #595280)
