680News wine reviews – July 19–21, 2013

Robert Oatley Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
The Margaret river region of Western Australia enjoys a Mediterranean climate, perfect for growing Bordeaux varieties. Robert Oatley Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, currently at Vintages, is deep ruby-purple in colour. It has complex nose redolent of cedar, blackcurrant and smoke. On the palate, sweet blackcurrant fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, well balanced and textured with evident tannins on the finish. It costs $17.95. Perfect for roast lamb dishes. That's Robert Oatley Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 from Australia. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #323741)

Tawse Sketches of Niagara Chardonnay 2011
Tawse winery in Vineland is one of Ontario's most bemedalled wineries. The Burgundian varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir excel here. Their second-tier label is called Sketches of Niagara. At Vintages on the Essentials list is Tawse Sketches of Niagara Chardonnay 2011. For $19.95 you get a wine that has an elegant, apple and citrus nose with a floral grace note and a wisp of oak. On the palate, lovely, crisp apple and pear flavours. Great with seafood or roast chicken. That's Tawse Sketches of Niagara Chardonnay 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #89037)
