Fowles Wines Are You Game? Shiraz 2009
The guys behind Fowles Wines in Australia have a great sense of humour. Their "Are You Game? Shiraz 2009" currently at the LCBO at $16.95 is the little sister to "Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz," which is currently at Vintages at twice the price. Are You Game? Shiraz is deep ruby-purple in colour with a savoury nose of black fruits, herbs and pepper. It offers dry, full-bodied, spicy, licorice, blackberry and toasty oak flavours. Best with barbecued meats. That's Fowles Wines Are You Game? Shiraz 2009 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, LCBO #327320)

La Ferme du Mont La Truffière 2011 Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2011 (Rhône)
Looking for something different in the way of a white wine? Try La Ferme du Mont La Truffière 2011 Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2011. It's a blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Clairette. The wine is deep straw in colour with a spicy, tropical fruit nose and a floral note. Richly extracted peach and melon flavours fill the mouth with a star anise finish. Good mouth feel. Good value. It costs $15.95 at Vintages. Try it with roast chicken. That's La Ferme du Mont La Truffière 2011 Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2011 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #234716)
