680News wine reviews – October 4–6, 2013

Alvinte Albarino 2010
Albarino is a grape grown in Galicia, a region in north-west of Spain bordering on Portugal. As its name suggests, it's a white grape from the Rhine, so it may be a clone of Riesling. Alvinte Albarino 2010, currently at the LCBO, is well priced at $14.85. It has a nose of melon and pear with a floral note. The palate offers dry apple and pineapple flavours, fresh with lively acidity which gives the wine good length. Try with roast chicken or seafood. That's Alvinte Albarino 2010 from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.85, LCBO #288126)

Chateau des Charmes Earth & Sky Riesling 2011
Earth and Sky is a new bargain-priced label from Ontario's Chateau des Charmes. It has a nose of honey and grapefruit with a floral note. The wine is off-dry, nicely balanced with honey, grapefruit and lime flavours that finish well on the palate. It costs $14.95 and can accompany most Chinese and Thai dishes as well as light curries. That s Chateau des Charmes Earth & Sky Riesling 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.95, LCBO #343350).
