680News wine reviews – October 18–20, 2013

Château des Charmes Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2011
Ontario Chardonnay made by fermentation in barrel tends to be a little costly, but here's one that's really wallet-friendly. Château des Charmes Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2011 is light straw colour; it has a leesy, toasty, apple nose. It's dry on the palate and mouth-filling with apple and roasted pear flavours; its creamy mouth feel is accompanied by a firm spine of acidity to keep it honest to its nutty finish. It costs $13.95. Try it with roast chicken or grilled salmon. That's Château des Charmes Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, LCBO #81653)

Bottega Vino dei Poeti Prosecco
Prosecco is the sparkling wine grown around the town of Valdobiaddene in Italy's Veneto region. Its great virtue is that it's inexpensive and refreshing. Bottega Vino dei Poeti Prosecco sells for $13.45 at the LCBO. Pale straw in colour with a fine mousse – which means plentiful, tiny bubbles – it has a nose of pear and citrus fruit with a touch of sweetness that's apparent on the palate. It makes an ideal aperitif wine or to serve with cold pork. That's Bottega Vino dei Poeti Prosecco from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, LCBO #897702)
