  • Hidden Bench Chardonnay 2011

Peljesac 2011 (Croatia)
$11.95 (Vintages #983494)
Croatia produces some budget-friendly wines. Pronounced "Pelushots," the 2011 vintage, made from an indigenous variety called Plavina, is garnet-coloured with an earthy, cherry nose. It's light on the palate with sweet cherry and plum flavours – rather like a blend of Beaujolais and Chianti. **** (87)
Food match: roast chicken or tomato-based pasta dishes

Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz 2010 (Australia)
$16.95 (LCBO #665471)
This Barossa Shiraz is dense purple in colour with a savoury, blackberry nose. Medium to full-bodied, it offers dry, blackberry and black licorice flavours expanding on the palate to blackcurrant and plum carried on lively acidity. **** (89)
Food match: red meat dishes; hard cheeses

Hidden Bench Chardonnay 2011 (Ontario)
$28.95 (Vintages #68817)
A beautifully balanced Chardonnay. Pale straw in colour with a minerally, floral, apple bouquet. Medium-bodied, crisply dry but finishing in a caramel note. ***** (90)
Food match: turkey; salmon steaks
