680News wine reviews – March 7–9, 2014

Riverview Cellars Gewurztraminer 2012
Today's recommendation is a well-made Gewurztraminer from Niagara. Riverview Cellars Gewurztraminer 2012 is pale straw in colour with a nose of cardamom and lychees; it's off-dry, soft on the palate with flavours of Turkish delight and rosewater. It's one of the best Gewurztraminers from Ontario that I've tried in some time. It costs $18.95 a bottle and is an ideal wine to match with Asian cuisine – or, if you can find it, Munster cheese. That's Riverview Cellars Gewurztraminer 2012 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, LCBO #368092)

Fabiano Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2010
Whenever I want a red wine to match Italian cuisine I usually go for Valpolicella from the Veneto region. Fabiano Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 2010 is just such a wine. The ripasso style has extra body and flavour concentration. Deep ruby in colour, it has a bouquet of cherries; it's medium-bodied, dry and firmly structured with a lively spine of acidity carrying a sweet cherry flavour. It costs $17.95 at the LCBO. Perfect for veal parmigiana or spaghetti bolognaise. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, LCBO #338350)
