 WINES OF THE WEEK

More Wines of the Week

  • Trius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011
  • Henri Bourgeois Les Baronnes Sancerre 2011
  • Beblenheim Alsace Gewurztraminer Réserve 2012

Three new white wines to the LCBO's general list:

Trius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011 (Ontario)
$18.95 (LCBO #251470)
Ontario's Trius is a label that took over a winery. The Hillebrand name of the original winery has virtually disappeared and the Trius brand is front and centre. Winemaker Craig MacDonald's Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011 has a toasty, apple nose and a creamy palate with a flavour of crushed pineapple and vanilla oak. **** (88)
Food match: roast chicken; grilled salmon

Henri Bourgeois Les Baronnes Sancerre 2011 (Loire Valley)
$24.95 (LCBO #542548)
A refined Sauvignon Blanc. Light straw in colour with a nose of gooseberries and cut grass; medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, expect crisply dry flavours of grapefruit and gooseberry. **** (88)
Food match: seafood; goat's cheese

Beblenheim Alsace Gewurztraminer Réserve 2012 (Alsace)
$16.90 (LCBO #361568)
A highly aromatic wine that smells like rosewater and lychees and tastes like that too; soft and flattering to the palate, you don't know whether to drink it or dab it behind your ears. But I'd advise drinking it. ****½ (89)
Food match: light curried dishes; smoked cheeses
