680News wine reviews – March 21–23, 2014

Quinta das Marias Encruzado 2011
Encruzado is a grape grown in Portugal's Dão region. It reminds me of Viognier. Quinta das Marias Encruzado 2011, currently at Vintages for $16.95, is pale lemon in colour and a Meyer lemon nose with a floral note; it's full-bodied, soft on the palate, beautifully balanced between sweet fruit and acidity with a dry honey note and a suggestion of struck-flint on the finish. Serve it with roast chicken. That's Quinta das Marias Encruzado 2011 from Portugal at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, Vintages #364802)

G. Marquis The Silver Line Pinot Noir 2012
G. Marquis is a Magnotta label that celebrates the life of the late Gabe Magnotta, who founded the Ontario winery. Vintages is currently carrying G. Marquis The Silver Line Pinot Noir 2012. Ruby coloured, it has a nose of cherry and beetroot with a light floral note. The wine is dry, medium-bodied, with cherry and cranberry flavours, supple tannins and an energetic spine of acidity. It costs $19.95 and works well with grilled salmon or white meat dishes. That's G. Marquis The Silver Line Pinot Noir 2012 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #258673)
