680News wine reviews – April 18–20, 2014

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva
Segura Viudas Brut Reserva is my go-to Cava when I'm looking for an inexpensive bubbly. Straw coloured with an active mousse, it offers an apple puree and hazel nut nose overlaid with minerally-yeasty notes. Medium-bodied with a dry, creamy, nutty flavour it's a very versatile fizz that costs a reasonable $14.25. You can serve it withsea food or goat's cheese. That's Segura Viudas Brut Reserva from Spain. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($14.25, LCBO #216960)

Trius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011
Ontario's Trius is a label that took over a winery. The Hillebrand name of the original winery has virtually disappeared and the Trius brand is front and centre. Winemaker Craig MacDonald's Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011 has a toasty, apple nose and a creamy palate with a flavour of crushed pineapple and vanilla oak. It costs $18.85 at the LCBO. Match it with roast chicken or grilled salmon. That's Trius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, LCBO #251470)
