Leyda Pinot Noir Reserva 2012 (Chile)
$12.50 (LCBO #358929)
Great value here for this cool climate Pinot from Chile's Leyda Valley. Light ruby colour; minerally nose of cherries and violets; well-structured cherry and cherry pit flavours, firmly structured with a lovely mouth feel. ****½ (89)
Food match: duck breast; smoked turkey

Strewn Two Vines Cabernet Merlot 2010 (Ontario)
$12.95 (LCBO #590109)
A useful claret-style red from Ontario. Dense purple colour with a nose of cedar and spicy black fruits; medium-bodied, raspberry and plum flavours with a floral note; firmly structured with a tannic lift on the finish. **** (88)
Food match: lamb chops; roast pork

Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture 2010 (Basilicata, Italy)
$15.95 (Vintages #320507)
We don't see many wines from the Italian region of Basilicata – think the instep of the Italian boot – but this one currently is a great bargain, punching above its weight for its price. Dense purple, it has a nose of cherries and leather and dried herbs. The herb-tinged fruit is sweet and the wine is easy drinking. ****½ (89)
Food match: red meat dishes; strong cheeses
