680News wine reviews – August 15–17, 2014

California Square Russian River Chardonnay 2012
California Square Russian River Chardonnay 2012 comes in a square bottle which is a bit off-putting at first sight. But once you get over the raised eyebrows the wine is worth its $18.95 price. Straw coloured with a lime tint, the nose is vanilla oak and stone fruit. Its full-bodied, sweet pineapple and ripe peach flavours fill the mouth – fleshy and broad on the palate. A wine for spicy chicken dishes. That's California Square Russian River Chardonnay 2012. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, LCBO #356717)

Vinecol Bonarda Organic 2013
We tend to associate Argentina with Malbec but there's another grape they grow well in the Mendoza Valley – Bonarda. Vinecol Bonarda Organic 2013, currently at Vintages outlets, is dense ruby-purple with a nose of licorice and mulberries; it's richly extracted, fleshy and chewy, with dark chocolate and black fruit flavours and evident alcohol. It costs $15.95. Serve it with BBQ meats. That's Vinecol Bonarda Organic 2013 from Argentina at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #375493)
