680News wine reviews – September 19–21, 2014

Wildass Riesling 2012
Wildass is the second label of Ontario's Stratus winery. Winemaker J.L. Groulx makes a very fine Riesling under the Wildass label. The 2012 vintage is light straw colour with an intriguing bouquet of grapefruit, lime and petrol. On the palate it's all honey and grapefruit flavours. A beautifully made Riesling for $16.95, available at Vintages outlets. It would go well with pork dishes or even Asian cuisine. That's Wildass Riesling 2012 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.96, Vintages #129700)

Maipe Chardonnay Viognier Reserve 2013
I'm a great fan of Chardonnay-Viognier blends and there's one currently at Vintages outlets that's delicious: Maipe Chardonnay Viognier Reserve 2013 from Argentina's Mendoza Valley. It's light straw in colour with a bouquet of apples, peaches and a floral note with evident oak; it's got mouth-filling, sweet peachy fruit with a touch of spice. It's full-bodied but soft in the mouth, nicely balanced with citrus acidity. Just the job for grilled chicken or pork. That's Maipe Chardonnay Viognier Reserve 2013 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, Vintages #379073)
