Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva 2008 (Tuscany)
($29.95, Vintages #368910)
This Sangiovese is ruby-coloured with a brick rim showing some maturity. An expressive nose of dried cherries, leather and minerals leads to a sleek mouth-feel, very well balanced and approachable with a long finish of exotic spices. ***** (90)
Food match: roast turkey; fresh parmesan cheese

Montes Alpha Pinot Noir 2012 (Chile)
($19.95, Vintages #143214)
A fruit-forward Pinot that's more than you might think to spend for a Chilean wine, but well worth it. Deep ruby colour with a spicy nose of strawberry, vanilla oak and a wisp of smoke. Medium-bodied, dry, well extracted sweet fruit, firmly structured with a fresh acidic finish. ****½ (89) Food match: duck breast; veal chop

Peninsula Ridge A.J. Lepp Reserve Pinot Noir 2012 (Ontario)
($18.95, LCBO #393942)
A well-made Niagara Pinot with a nose of cedar and cherries. Dry, medium-bodied with floral raspberry and cherry flavours; light on the palate and easy drinking with silken tannins. Good varietal character. ****½ (89)
Food match: grilled salmon; runny camembert.
