680News wine reviews – October 17–19, 2014

Château de la Grave Caractère 2010
Château de la Grave Caractère 2010 is a tasty red Bordeaux at a bargain price from the less fashionable region of Bourg, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. Dense purple-black in colour, this wine has a nose of cedar and currants though somewhat muted at the moment. It's medium-bodied with an engaging blackcurrant flavour heightened by a floral top note. Allow it to open by decanting an hour before serving. It costs $17.95 at Vintages. Match it with lamb. That's Château de la Grave Caractère 2010 from Bordeaux. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #224683)

Barone Montalto Pinot Grigio 2013
Regular listeners to these wine reviews know that I'm not a great fan of Pinot Grigio but when it comes to a well-made wine at a bargain price I'm prepared to face my prejudices. Barone Montalto Pinot Grigio 2013 from Sicily is pale straw in colour with a minerally, pear skin nose; it's dry and medium-bodied, exhibiting apple and pear flavours with a surprisingly rich texture. And the good news – it's only $8.95 at the LCBO. Serve it with chicken salad. That's Barone Montalto Pinot Grigio 2013 from Sicily. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($8.95, LCBO #73148)
