680News wine reviews – October 24–26, 2014

Trenel Bourgogne Blanc 2012
Trenel is a Beaujolais producer who also makes white wines in the neighbouring Maconnais region. Just released at Vintages is Trenel Bourgogne Blanc 2012 at a nifty price. Straw coloured, it has an intriguing nose of apples and apple blossom. It's medium-bodied, crisply dry and fresh and a perfect introduction to white Burgundy. It costs $16.95 a bottle. Try it with grilled fish or roast chicken. That's Trenel Bourgogne Blanc 2012 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($16.95, Vintages #391094)

Graham Beck Brut Sparkling
In South Africa they call their sparkling wines made by the champagne method – that is, the secondary fermentation in bottle – Cap Classique. ReleasedOctober 25 is Graham Beck Brut, a wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It has a toasty, smoky nose of apples and digestive biscuits. The lemony acidity renders it crisply dry. If champagne prices are stretching your budget this is a more comfortable $18.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it as an aperitif or it has enough body to stand up to roast chicken. That's Graham Beck Brut Sparkling from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($18.95, Vintages #593483)
