680News wine reviews – November 7–9, 2014

MontGras Amaral Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Hernan Gras used to make wines for the Brights Winery in Niagara before he left for his native Chile to start up his own operation in in 1993. Currently on LCBO shelves is his MontGras Amaral Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from the cool, coastal Leyda Valley. Very pale lime colour, the wine has a minerally, grassy, green fig and grapefruit nose; it's medium-bodied, with a crisply dry grapefruit flavour and a final flourish of elderberry. Good value at $11.85 until November 9th, when the price goes up two bucks. Try it with shellfish. That's MontGras Amaral Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News. Com. (LCBO #367292)

Vidal Fleury Domaine de Vieille Fontaine Cotes du Rhone Villages 2012
Vidal-Fleurie is one of a great producers of the Rhone Valley whose red wines have a layered complexity. Vidal Fleury Domaine de Vieille Fontaine Cotes du Rhone Villages 2012, released November 9 at Vintages, is dense purple in colour with a nose of blackberries and wild herbs with floral grace note. Dry and elegant with a lovely mouth-feel, the wine has a rich flavour of blackberries and black licorice. Great value at $17.95. Match it with heart winter stews. That's Vidal Fleury Domaine de Vieille Fontaine Cotes du Rhone Villages 2012 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #393215)
