680News wine reviews – January 2–4, 2015

Moris Farms Morellino di Scansano 2012
I'm a great fan of Morellino di Scansano, a Sangiovese not from the Chianti region but from Maremma on the Tuscan coast. It's fruitier and lighter in body than Chianti Classico. Moris Farms Morellino di Scansano 2012, just released at Vintages, is ruby-coloured with a spicy cherry nose, medium-bodied, juicy, dry and elegant. It costs $19.95. Serve it with tomato-based pasta dishes. That's Moris Farms Morellino di Scansano 2012 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #992560)

Pierre Sparr Réserve Gewürztraminer 2012
Gewürztraminer, the most aromatic of grapes, is something you either love or you don't. I love it and you won't find a better Gewürz at $17.95 a bottle than Pierre Sparr Réserve Gewürztraminer 2012 from Alsace currently at Vintages outlets. Pale straw in colour with a spicy, lychee and rose petal nose, this wine has richly extracted fruit and a lovely mouth-feel. Just a pleasure to drink. Or better still, to serve with onion tart or smoked salmon. That's Pierre Sparr Réserve Gewürztraminer 2012 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($17.95, Vintages #747600)
