680News wine reviews – February 13–15, 2015

Alceño Premium 50 Barricas Syrah 2012
There was a big release of Spanish wines at Vintages last month – 21 in all – and the best value was Alceño Premium 50 Barricas Syrah 2012 from the Jumilla region. It's deep purple-ruby in colour with a nose of blackberries and smoked meat. It's dry, full-bodied with juicy fruit and a savoury finish. It's great value at $13.95. Serve it with red meat dishes. That's Alceño Premium 50 Barricas Syrah 2012 from Spain at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($13.95, Vintages #398933)

Errazuriz Max Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2013
The Chilean winery Errazuriz is not an easy name to pronounce. But be thankful. It used to be called Errazuriz Panquehue. They're forgiven because they make very good wines across the portfolio. I'm particularly fond of the Errazuriz Max Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2013. It's got a grassy, green bean nose and flavours of grapefruit and lime with a minerally, salty note, finishing crisply dry. It costs $15.95. A wine for seafood or vegetarian dishes. That's Errazuriz Max Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2013 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680News.com. ($15.95, LCBO #273342)
