680News wine reviews – March 20–21, 2015

Hardy's Stamp Series Cabernet Merlot 2013
Hardy's is Australia's largest wine company. Its largest-selling brand is its bargain-priced Stamp series. The 2013 Cabernet Merlot blend under this label is deep ruby in colour with a nose of cedar and currants with pencil lead notes on the nose. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied with red plum and redcurrant flavours backed by lively acidity. It costs $9.90 a bottle. Match it with lamb burgers or hard cheeses That's Hardy's Stamp Series Cabernet Merlot 2013 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680 News.com. ($9.90, LCBO #582395)

Tinhorn Creek Gewurztraminer 2013
For my money Tinhorn Creek makes the most classically precise Gewurztraminer in the Okanagan Valley. Currently at Vintages is that winery's 2013 Gewurz. Pale straw in colour, it offers a flattering bouquet of lychees and rose water. Light on the palate and crisply dry, it's got complex, lingering Turkish delight flavours of grapefruit, ginger, lychee and cardamom. Serve it with Asian dishes or roast pork of enjoy it as a wine of contemplation. That's Tinhorn Creek Gewurztraminer 2013 from BC. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News and 680 News.com. ($19.95, Vintages #904185)
