680News wine reviews – April 24–26, 2015

Michel Chapoutier Les Vignes Bila Haut Côtes de Roussillon Villages 2013
The great Rhone producer Michel Chapoutier has worked his magic in the Roussillon region with his Les Vignes Bila Haut Côtes de Roussillon Villages 2013. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, deep purple-ruby in colour, it offers a peppery, herbal, savoury nose of blackberries and tobacco; full-bodied, and richly extracted, it's dry and savoury with a floral uplift on the finish. It costs a bargain $15.45 at Vintages outlets. Perfect for barbecued ribs. That's Michel Chapoutier Les Vignes Bila Haut Côtes de Roussillon Villages 2013 from France. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($15.95, Vintages #168716)

Marques de Casa Concha Sauvignon Blanc 2013
For my money the best Sauvignon Blanc from Chile comes from the cool Leyda Valley. Currently at Vintages is Marques de Casa Concha Sauvignon Blanc 2013. This wine is almost water white. The bouquet – all elderberry and asparagus with citrus notes. It's medium-bodied, crisply dry, fresh and lively on the palate with a long finish. It costs $18.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with vegetarian dishes or goat cheese. That's Marques de Casa Concha Sauvignon Blanc 2013 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($18.95, Vintages #403378)
