Okanagan Vineyards Cabernet Merlot 1999 (British Columbia)
$9.95 (general release)
This is a bargain at the price – a well-aged wine with recognizable varietal character. Tawny ruby in colour; cedar, red berries with a touch of oak on the nose; mature, soft mouth feel with a light cranberry and red currant flavour; crisp acidic finish. A good food wine. ***˝
Food match: lamb cutlets, fresh parmesan cheese

Kirralaa Bushvine Shiraz 2001 (Australia)
$24.95 (Vintages)
A Rosemount/Robert Mondavi joint venture wine made from grapes from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Margaret River and Coonawarra. Dense purple with a minty, blackberry, vanilla oak nose; rich, sweet, full-bodied mouth feel; fruity and toasty, spicy blackberry and raspberry flavours; soft tannins and lively acidity. ****
Food match: BBQ-ed steak, game dishes

Harbour Estate Merlot 2002 (Ontario)
$14.95 (available only at the winery – Call 1-877-439-9463 to order or online at www.niagarapod.com)
Great depth of purple colour; sweet blueberry and mocha nose that follows through on the palate; firmly structured, medium-bodied with a tannic finish. Hold 1–2 years. Good value for the quality. ****
Food match: roast pork, grilled ham
