  • Alice White Shiraz 2002

  • Cilento Chardonnay Reserve 1999

Alice White Shiraz 2002 (Australia)
$11.95 (general release)
This wine is shipped in bulk to Gonzales, California, and bottled there, but the style is all Aussie – including the bodice-ripper novella excerpt on the back label (see www.alicewhite.com). Dense purple ruby colour, spicy, peppery blackberry with a dollop of vanilla oak; not a lot of concentration of flavour, but enough to make the price worthwhile; blackberry flavour with a hint of iodine followed by lively acidity.***˝
Food match: burgers, spicy pizzas

Okanagan Vineyards Chardonnay 2001 (British Columbia)
$9.95 (general release)
Medium straw colour; a nose of apple puree; medium-bodied, sweet apple and caramel flavours on the palate, good length with a burnt toffee finish. Good value. ***˝
Food match: chicken gumbo, pork kebabs

Cilento Chardonnay Reserve 1999 (Ontario)
$29.95 (available Vintages, through Winerytohome or at the winery, 905-264-9463 fax 905-264-8671, e-mail cilento@ica.net)
This is a full-blooded Chardonnay that is reaching its peak. Golden straw colour with a high-toned, oaky, buttery nose; intense, butterscotch and grilled nut flavours; fat, fleshy yet structured; long toasty finish. Drink soon. ****
Food match: grilled lobster, pineapple chicken.
