Norton Barrel Select Malbec 2013
With the barbecue season in full swing, sturdy red wines come to the fore. And you're probably looking for inexpensive but tasty products. I was impressed by Norton Barrel Select Malbec 2013 from Argentina. Purple-ruby in colour, it's got a spicy, black cherry nose with a peppery note; on the palate, sweet black fruit flavours with supple tannins and a good spine of acidity. Great value at $12.95 on the LCBO's general list. Serve it with any grilled meats or ribs. That's Norton Barrel Select Malbec 2013 from Argentina. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($12.95, LCBO #400556)

Opawa Pinot Gris 2014
In addition to Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand's Marlborough region makes some nifty Pinot Gris. Currently at Vintages is Opawa Pinot Gris 2014 that sells for $16.95. Straw coloured with a green tint, it offers a minerally, peach nose with citrus notes. It's medium-bodied, dry with well-extracted peach and nectarine flavours and a long, clean finish. A good match forgrilled salmon or roast chicken. That's Opawa Pinot Gris 2014 from New Zealand. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($16.95, Vintages #408625)
