680News wine reviews – July 3–5, 2015

Loios Red 2014
In my obsessive hunt for bargains at the LCBO I came across this red beauty from Portugal – J. Portugal Ramos Loios Red 2014 is a blend of Aragonez and Trincadeira grapes from the Alentejo region. Deep ruby in colour with purple highlights, it has a nose of black cherry and plum with aromas of oak; it's medium bodied, dry, with well extracted black fruit flavours, balancing acidity and an overlay of spicy oak. It costs $9.30 a bottle at the LCBO. Try it with chorizo sausage or chicken kebabs. That's Loios Red 2014 from Portugal. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($9.30, LCBO #89912).

Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Gold Label Chardonnay 2013
With a salute to our neighbours south of the border, here's a wine recommendation for American Independence Day: Francis Ford Coppola Diamond Collection Gold Label Chardonnay 2013 from California's Monterey County. This full-bodied Chardonnay at Vintages outlets is straw-coloured with a spicy, tropical nose. The richly extracted fruit is sweet, augmented by toasty oak that lingers on the palate. It costs $19.95 at Vintages outlets. Big enough to stand up to grilled tuna or even a veal chop if you prefer white wines. That's Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Gold Label Chardonnay 2013 from California. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($19.95, Vintages #708305)
