680News wine reviews – August 28–30, 2015

Featherstone Four Feathers 2014
Ontario is producing a lot of blended white wines now and one of the best bargains is Featherstone Four Feathers 2014 – a mix of Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is very pale in colour with an aromatic bouquet of spicy Asian pear. It's off-dry, perfumed, with an exotic pineapple flavour. It costs $14.95 at Vintages outlets. Serve it with Asian cuisine or as an aperitif wine. That's Featherstone Four Feathers 2014 from Ontario. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($14.95, Vintages #341586)

Viña Maipo Gran Devocion Carmenere/Syrah 2012
If you want to impress your dinner party guests with a full-bodied New World red, pick up a bottle of Viña Maipo Gran Devocion Carmenere/Syrah 2012 from Chile. Currently at Vintages outlets at $17.95, this wine is dense purple in colour with a rich bouquet of blackcurrants and vanilla oak. Dry and juicy on the palate, its blackcurrant flavour is buttressed with oak and ripe tannins delivered on fresh acidity. A great match for barbecued steak or spicy ribs. That's Viña Maipo Gran Devocion Carmenere/Syrah 2012 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680News. ($17.95, Vintages #274100)
