More Wines of the Week

  • Villa Jolanda Moscato d'Asti 2014
  • Château du Bois Chantant Cuvée Laurence H. 2012
  • Prevedello Asolo Superiore Extra Dry Prosecco 2014

Villa Jolanda Moscato d'Asti 2014 (Piemonte)
$14.95 (Vintages #425249)
Lightly effervescent, low in alcohol, this wine is summer in a glass. Very pale in colour, it has a bouquet of orange blossom and cardamom. The flavour is honeyed and grapey but balanced by fresh citrus acidity. ****½ (89)
Food match: aperitif wine; creamy blue cheeses

Château du Bois Chantant Cuvée Laurence H. 2012 (Bordeaux)
$18.95 (Vintages #421206)
The red wines of Bordeaux can be costly but here's one that is really well priced and will round out with two or three years of cellaring. Dense purple in colour with a nose of blackcurrant, cedar and spicy oak. It's still tight but some bottle age will soften its tannins. ****½ (89)
Food match: lamb chops; mature cheddar

Prevedello Asolo Superiore Extra Dry Prosecco 2014 (Veneto)
$16.95 (Vintages #262881)
Very pale colour with a lime tint; a nose of white flower and sweet apple; medium-bodied, mouth-filling peach and apple flavours with a hint of residual sweetness. Good length to a Meyer lemon-flavoured finish. ****½ (89)
Food match: aperitif wine; chicken salad
