680News wine reviews – September 11–13, 2015

Villa Jolanda Moscato d'Asti 2014
Last Saturday Vintages released a wine that's perfect for hot days – Villa Jolanda Moscato d'Asti 2014 from Piemonte. Lightly effervescent, low in alcohol, this wine is summer in a glass. Very pale in colour, it has a bouquet of orange blossom and cardamom. The flavour is honeyed and grapey but balanced by fresh citrus acidity. It costs $14.95 a bottle. Chill it and serve it as an aperitif or with creamy blue cheeses. That's Villa Jolanda Moscato d'Asti 2014 from Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.95, Vintages #425249)

Château du Bois Chantant Cuvée Laurence H. 2012
The red wines of Bordeaux can be costly but here's one that is really well priced and will round out with two or three years of cellaring: Château du Bois Chantant Cuvée Laurence H. 2012. Currently at Vintages and selling for $18.95, this wine is dense purple in colour with a nose of blackcurrant, cedar and spicy oak. It's still tight but some bottle age will soften its tannins. It's the perfect wine for lamb because on the day God created sheep He also created the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. That's Château du Bois Chantant Cuvée Laurence H. 2012 from France at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($18.95, Vintages #421206)
