680 NEWS wine reviews – October 9–11, 2015

Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2013
Boschendal Chardonnay 2013 from South Africa's Western Cape is the best value Chardonnay under $15 I've tasted from the LCBO in a long time. Light lemon in colour, it has a Burgundian-style nose of forest floor and apples. Rich, dry and mouth-filling, the flavour is all mango and green pineapple with well-integrated oak and a long lemony finish. It costs $14.80 a bottle. Perfect for roast chicken or grilled tuna. That's Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2013 from South Africa. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.80, LCBO #367698)

Quinta da Murta White 2013
We don't see many white wines from Portugal coming through Vintages but in the last release there was a splendid Quinta da Murta White 2013 from the Bucleas region, made from the Arinto grape. It has a nose that reminded me of an aged Hunter Valley Semillon – slightly oily on the nose with an apple puree note. The flavour is dry, lemony and resiny with a long finish. Great value at $14.95 from Vintages outlets. And amazing with grilled sardines, or any fish for that matter. That's Quinta da Murta White 2013 from Portugal at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($14.95, Vintages #380279)
