680 NEWS wine reviews – October 16–18, 2015

Stephane Aviron Vieilles Vignes Morgon Cote du Puy 2012
If you think Beaujolais is a wine that can't age, try a bottle of Stephane Aviron Vieilles Vignes Morgon Cote du Puy 2012 currently at Vintages and priced at $19.95. This cru Beaujolais from the Morgon commune is deep ruby in colour with a floral, black cherry nose and hints of white pepper. Medium-bodied, dry and elegant, it's firmly structured and will last another five years, but it's drinking nicely now. Try it with roast chicken or veal chop. That's Stephane Aviron Vieilles Vignes Morgon Cote du Puy 2012 from Beaujolais at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #424804)

Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico S, 2013
Ripasso is an Italian term for the technique of adding more flavour to Valpolicella by passing it over the lees – the fermented grape skins – of Amarone production. A delicious example is Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2013. Deep ruby in colour, it has nose of blackcurrants and vanilla oak; full-bodied, dry and elegant, the blackcurrant flavour is carried on lively acidity. It costs $17.95 at Vintages. Serve it with pasta dishes. That's Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2013 from Italy at Vintages outlets. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #161844).
