Cape Barren Native Goose Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre 2012 (South Australia)
$19.95 (Vintages # 425850)
Deep ruby colour with a nose of blackberry and raspberry with a hint of oak. The wine is dry, full-bodied, fresh and fruity with a lively spine of acidity and good length. ****½ (89)
Food match: spicy ribs; pepper steak

Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2013 (South Africa's Western Cape)
$14.80 (LCBO #367698)
This is the best value Chardonnay under $15 I've tasted from the LCBO in a long time. Light lemon in colour, it has a Burgundian-style nose of forest floor and apples. Rich, dry and mouth-filling, the flavour is all mango and green pineapple with well-integrated oak and a long lemony finish. ***** (90)
Food match: grilled fish; roast chicken

Quinta da Murta White 2013 (Portugal)
$14.95 (Vintages #380279)
We don't see many white wines from Portugal coming through Vintages but in the last release there was a splendid Quinta Da Murta White 2013 from the Bucleas region, made from the Arinto grape. It has a nose that reminded me of an aged Hunter Valley Semillon – slightly oily with an apple puree note. The flavour is dry, lemony and resiny with a long finish. **** (88+)
Food match: grilled sardines; tuna tartar
