680 NEWS wine reviews – November 6–8, 2015

3 Rings Shiraz 2013
For lovers of bold Barossa Shiraz here's another winner from down under – 3 Rings Shiraz 2013 now at Vintages and selling for $18.95 a bottle. Pour a glass and you see its dense purple in colour. Immediately smoky, creamy blackberry and plum aromas captivate the nose. Full-bodied and fleshy, the richly extracted sweet fruit fills the mouth but contained by a solid structure of acidity and tannins. It's a wine carnivores of all stripes. Great value at the price and perfect for flame-grilled red meats. That's 3 Rings Shiraz from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($18.95, Vintages #15495)

Santa Alicia Reserva de los Andes Chardonnay 2013
There's too much Chardonnay in the world – and not enough top-flight Chardonnay at a price most wine lovers can afford. I did come across one recently that I have no hesitation in recommending: Santa Alicia Gran Reserva de los Andes Chardonnay 2013, selling at Vintages outlets for $18.95. The wine is light straw in colour with nose of spicy tropical fruit and vanilla oak. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, it has robust flavours of peach and spicy oak, well balanced and long in the mouth. A wine for spicy chicken dishes. That's Santa Alicia Reserva de los Andes Chardonnay 2013 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($18.95, Vintages #406991)
