680 NEWS wine reviews – November 13–15, 2015

The Lane Vineyard Block 1A Chardonnay 2013
The Lane Vineyard Block 1A Chardonnay 2013 was grown in Australia's Adelaide Hills but, in terms of style, it owes as much to Burgundy as it does to Balhanna in South Australia where the grapes are grown. Straw-coloured, the minerally bouquet has a note of forest floor – a characteristic of fine white Burgundy. Full-bodied and dry with a soft mouth-feel, the flavour is of peaches with just a suggestion of oak. It costs $19.95 at Vintages starting November 14. Try it with grilled salmon or roast chicken. That's The Lane Vineyard Block 1A Chardonnay 2013 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #429233)

San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Carmenère 2013
Carmenere is an ancient Bordeaux variety that's found a new life in Chile. San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Carmenère 2013, currently at Vintages outlets, is dense purple-ruby in colour. The intense nose of blackcurrants and vanilla oak with a cedary note, follows through to a full-bodied, fruity but dry flavour of plum and raspberry with blackcurrant notes on the finish. A massive, fleshy wine with a chunky mouth-feel. Works well with chili con carne or any spicy meat dish. That's San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Carmenère 2013 from Chile. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #37911)
