680 NEWS wine reviews – November 20–22, 2015

Château Pey La Tour 2010
A really tasty red Bordeaux from a great vintage under $20? Well, here's one: Château Pey La Tour 2010, a Bordeaux Supérieur at $19.95, currently at Vintages. Dense purple-ruby in colour, it presents a blackcurrant and coffee bean nose with a cedary note; medium-bodied, well-extracted blackcurrant and plum flavours with lively acidity fill the mouth, ending on mellow tannins. A wine for lamb chops. That's Château Pey La Tour 2010 from France at Vintages. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #349308)

Frescobaldi Campo Al Sassi Rosso di Montalcino 2013
Brunello di Montalcino, that long-lived Tuscan Sangiovese, can be costly; but its baby sister Rosso di Montalcino in certainly more affordable. Currently at Vintages and selling for $21.95 is Frescobaldi Campo Ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino 2013. Deep ruby in colour colour, it offers a minty, cherry nose; it's medium-bodied, dry, with a sour cherry flavour carried on a fine spine of acidity to a rustic cherry pit finish. Perfect for tomato-based pastas. That's Frescobaldi Campo Al Sassi Rosso di Montalcino 2013 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($21.95, Vintages #429415)
