680 NEWS wine reviews – November 27–29, 201

Robert Oatley Shiraz 2013
The Vintages Noember 18th release includes a topnotch Shiraz from Australia's McLaren Vale at a very decent price. It's Robert Oatley Shiraz 2013. Dense purple in colour, the wine has a lovely floral, blackcurrant and blackberry nose. Full-bodied, dry and savoury, flavours of blackberries, leather and black olive fill the mouth, finishing with soft, ripe tannins. It costs $19.95 a bottle and is perfect for hearty winter stews or pepper steak. That's Robert Oatley Shiraz 2013 from Australia. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($19.95, Vintages #327387)

Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico 2013
Valpolicella used to a light quaffable wine comparable to Beaujolais, but since producers in Veneto have been refermenting their Vapolicella on the lees of their Amarone production, the wines have taken on a richer and more complex character. A case in point is Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico 2013, a deeply coloured wine with a nose of blackcurrant and vanilla oak. Medium-bodied and dry, its elegant blackcurrant flavour is backed by lively acidity. The price, $17.95 at Vintages outlets. A wine for mushroom risotto. That's Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso Valpolicella Classico 2013 from Italy. For Post City Magazines, I'm Tony Aspler, 680 NEWS. ($17.95, Vintages #161844)
